HOW CYWF WORKS

Scientific Essay Competition

Every candidate in this competition must write an essay that proposes ways to solve social, ethnic and gender inequality in  science. Proof readers expect the essay to be original and to take a clear social stance. The winner of the Essay Competition will  receive a 100 pound prize donated to us by our extremely kind sponsors from the UK!

Lectures by World Renowned Scientists

During a five day period, lecturers from all over the world  talk about a topic of their choice.  All our lecturers have studied in extremely prestigious institutions, such as Harvard University, The University of Cambridge, USP, Tsinghua University, The University of Cape Town and University College London. Lecture topics range from Epidemiology to Physics. There is time for questions and debates after lectures, and the contact of these lecturers is always available for our participants. Our most memorable lecturers include Dr. Tolullah Oni, Dr. Robert Brandenberger, Professor Simon Baron-Cohen, Professor Will Kinney and Dr. Knowledge Chikundi.

Scientific Project Competition

Candidates can submit projects that fall into the category of Engineering, Biological Sciences, Maths and Physics and Social Sciences. Proof readers are teachers with whom we work with. Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place include credentials that allow students to attend internationally renown science fairs such as LIYSF (London International Youth Science Forum), where the creators of CYWF first met. Such prizes are awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in all categories.

Our Vision

Colleagues who met at Imperial College London during a Science Forum (LIYSF) in 2019 decided to pursue their dream to democratise science. To do so they developed an online science fair which aims to enable access to high quality scientific discourse. This science fair includes lectures by renowned scientists, a  Scientific Project Competition, a Scientific Essay Competition in addition to interviews with science communicators and researchers.  Lectures happen during a period of five days in November. Lecture topics range from Economics to Cosmology and Neuroscience. The Connecting the Young World Fair winners of the Scientific Project Competition ( 1st, 2nd and 3rd place of all categories) win credentials that allow them to take part in other globally renown science fairs such as LISYF. In terms of the Scientific Essay Competition, the winner leaves with a monetary prize of 100 pounds donated to our organisation by our very kind UK sponsors.
